Hello!
I'm back!
You know how we Canadians love to flaunt about being insured? Yeah we do, we like to tell the Americans that we can walk into a hospital and don't pay a cent for anything! Blah blah blah! Well today was one of those days that made me feel that perhaps having a two-tier health system would be good, I wouldn't mind paying to see a GP.
Here in Canada to get to see a specialist, a neurologist, a cardiologist, a dermafreakingtologist, you need a reference from a general practitioner. But what I didn't know is that if it has been more than two years and your daughter hasn't seen the specialist because he or she told my daughter not to, even if it's only for a prescription, you need a new reference. Here is where the pain is because my daughter and wife have to go to the CLSC and see a doctor, this takes forever. Here in Québec we have a lack of doctors and therefore people have to wait for a while when going to see a general practitioner. I am one of the lucky ones that has a doctor and therefore can make an appointment with him, but those that don't have one have to play the waiting game.
You know what, in a way I'm lucky that I'm sick because I have access to everything that I need regarding my health. I got a general practitioner, I got a neurologist, I got a nutritionist, I got an occupational therapist (several of them to be exact), I got galore! I don't know if the rest of Canada has the same problem but here in Québec it's a big problem and it's very common to wait 16+ hours in a waiting room at the hospital.
Here's looking at you!
